The Sixth Japan-Finland Joint Symposium
on Optics in Engineering (OIE'05) was
held in the International
Conference Hall of Hokkai-Gakuen University, Sapporo,
Hokkaido,
Japan, on 26-28 September 2005. Since the first joint symposium
on
¡ÈOptics in Engineering¡Éwas held in Lappeenranta in 1995, the
line of symposia
succeeded in Tsukuba 1997, in Kajaani 1999,
in Osaka 2001, and in Saariselka 2003.
OIE'05 extends this series
in its tenth anniversary. During this decade, optics
has shown
remarkable development in various fields such as biomedical optics
and
nanophotonics. The series of symposia has provided timely
forums of presenting
novel and innovative works in pure and applied
optics through the interaction
between Japanese and Finnish scientists
who are working in the fields of optics.
The symposium of OIE'05
was made open to the whole optics community in Japan for
the
first time, having cosponsorship of the Optical Society of Japan
in addition
to the other cosponsorship of the High-Tech Research
Center, Hokkai-Gakuen
University, with the result of 45 papers
presented in total.
