To investigate how the human brain processes words (Kanji) and symbols (arrows) with directional meanings, we measured EEGs when the subjects were observing Kanji and arrow. We estimated brain activities by use of equivalent current dipole source localization (ECDL). In the case of kanji stimulus, ECDs were localized to the left middle temporal gyrus and angular gyrus; these areas are called the language area, regardless of direction. In the case of arrow stimulus, ECDs were localized to the right inferior frontal gyrus and the right middle frontal gyrus; these areas are processing spatial working memory.
