In the communication and sharing of product data, any mismatch between the required accuracy and the data quality renders the data subjected to evaluation inappropriate. In this case, the product data is treated as valid within the original system and for its initial usage, however, a problem might occur in the reuse phase of the data. This time lag problem appears in the subsequent manufacturing process, requiring data repair or remaking work, which results in significant economic loss. In the present state, product data is a dumb model, and its quality is not assured. The receiver system cannot identify whether or not the data has sufficient quality. Furthermore, the manufacturer cannot issue a request for product data in advance. The problem mentioned above comes from lack of information regarding the guardant quality of product data. Our proposed solution is designed to enable the communication and sharing of data quality information. This paper reports the development of a PDQ (Product Data Quality) model as a resource for STEP (ISO 10303) standards [1]. Its objective is to establish a PDQ model and to use the PDQ data independently or in combination with product data. Our developed PDQ information model represents a concept of data quality criteria, required measurement, and measured results. Based on the PDQ model, a PDQ-S (PDQ for shape data) model is developed.
