We constructed a 3D-FEM model of the tibia and the fibula by piling up CT images from the normal tibia and fibula. The model was implanted with four types of TC: a simple column stem, a Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) fillet stem, a stream line profile stem and a stem conformal to the tibia. We selected twelve representative loading points in a walking cycle after research conducted by A. Seireg et al. Two dimensional Gaussian distribution was assumed as the loading on each point. Loading just before toe off in a walking cycle has great influence on stress distribution in the TC and the tibia. We used 3D-FEM analysis to compare stress distributions in the model under these loading conditions. The type conformal to the tibia stem was the best among the four types from the point of ease of the stress concentration.
