¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡JSAP International, No.6, pp.12-19, 2002-6
¡¡Recent advances in science and technology have brought about a diverserange of
methods for the scientific research of cultural heritage, and significant developments
are being made with all of these methods. This paper introduces the recent research
trends in the use of optical methods for the research and reconstruction of visual
and audio artifacts in the form of paintings and sculptures, and audio artifacts
in the form of wax cylinder records. As further developments are made in information
technology, it is expected that museums and art galleries will compile multimedia
databases from a wide range of cultural heritage resources, and optical techniques
are likely to play a crucial role in this activity.
