(8) Linear motion processing in the brain:
A visual evoked potential study

In order to investigate linear processing in the brain, the authors recorded
19ch visual evoked potentials during the following oculomotor tasks. On a
CRT screen, a white circle moves vertically (upward or downward) or horizontally
(left or right) from each side of the screen (¡Èlinear¡É). The speeds of the
circle were 0.43 pixel per msec (¡Ècontinuous¡É mode) and 0.25 pixel per msec
(¡Èdiscrete¡É mode). Subjects were instructed to tract the moving circle with
binocularity. In the control task (¡Ècontrol¡É), the circle moves randomly
in space on the screen, and the subjects were requested to trace the stimulus.
Single equivalent current dipole source localization (ECDL) was applied to
the difference wave between ¡Èlinear¡É and ¡Ècontrol¡É tasks.
