Unconventional speckle patterns having fractal features can be produced
by illuminating a plane diffuser by coherent light having an intensity
distribution obeying a negative power function. Although such speckles
have been shown to have fractal properties, there is also an evidence that
indicates that the speckles are not simple fractals. In this study, therefore,
the speckles are analyzed on the basis of multifractal approach that can
describe complex fractal structures, and are actually shown to be multifractal
in an approximate sense.
