It is known that random optical intensities with fractal properties (fractal
speckles) can be generated by illuminating an ordinary plane diffuser with
coherent light having an average intensity obeying a negative power law.
So far, such an illumination condition was realized by the laser light
cattering from a random fractal aperture, giving rise to extremely weak
intensities. In this paper, we introduce a new approach to generating power-law
intensities on the basis of a liquid crystal spatial light modulator. This
method provides us with much brighter fractal speckles than those due to
the preceding method. Some properties of fractal speckles are also discussed,
particluarly, in relation with the intensity clustering and multifractality.
