¡¡The authors recorded event-related potentials (ERPs) by electroencephalogram (EEG) during fuzzy and crisp calculations. Each set of calculations was based on 60 questions. Questions are divided into two types. As one type (Type A) of questions were presented as sentences on CRT, the questions of the other type (Type B) were presented as numerical calculations on CRT. The subjects were requested to input the answers by a keyboard when they finished calculations. We investigated differential waveform between fuzzy and crisp calculations to determine the latency of ERPs. So for type A, a peak latency of the EEG around 1100ms was investigated and response positions in the brain were detected by the dipole estimation. For type B, a peak latency of the EEG around 650ms was investigated. In type A, from multiple equivalent current dipole source localization (ECDL) around the latency of each ERP, it followed that sources during fuzzy calculation lie in the right hemisphere and that sources during crisp calculation lie in the left hemisphere. But in type B, no significant difference was observed.
