In this research, the interval and direction of the ridgeline which constitutes a fingerprint pattern are statistically analyzed by image processing by MATLAB . As a result, the macroscopic feature of a fingerprint pattern is detected as direction distribution of a ridgeline. Furthermore, the feature code for identifying a fingerprint is defined as direction distribution of the ridgeline obtained by dividing into the domain of 5x5. Fingerprint authentication and collation of two fingerprints are performed by evaluating the difference of those feature codes.
